AntioxiNUT Advisory Board Touts Pecans at Dietitian Conference
The Georgia Pecan Commission unveiled the AntioxiNUT campaign at the American Dietetic Association’s Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo this past September in San Diego to a targeted audience of more than 6,000 dietitians and nutritionists and 8,500 health professionals. This was by far the largest attendance for this conference since the Commission began exhibiting in 2007.

USDA Says Pecans Top Antioxidant Nut
According to the USDA, pecans possess more antioxidant activity than any other tree nut. Antioxidants are naturally occurring substances, such as the polyphenolics found in pecans. They keep in check the potentially harmful effects of free radicals, reactive oxygen species which the body produces from normal metabolism and that are also encountered in the environment.

Snackers Rejoice - Eating Pecans Increases Your Antioxidant Levels
Loma Linda University released a new research study published in the January 2011 issue of The Journal of Nutrition demonstrating that naturally occurring antioxidants in pecans may help contribute to heart health and disease prevention. The findings illustrate that after eating pecans, unhealthy oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol in the blood decreased by as much as 33 percent! Read more about the study here.

The Georgia Pecan Commission’s participation at the American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo communicated both usage and health messages, including the important antioxidant message, to a targeted audience of over 9,000 dieticians, nutritionists and health professionals in November.

Georgia Pecans Fit! with FITNESS Magazine
This year, the Georgia Pecan Commission partnered with FITNESS Magazine to host the Mind, Body, Spirit Games in New York City’s Central Park. Emphasizing how Georgia pecans fit with fitness, the Commission helped participants get enthusiastic about incorporating antioxidant-rich foods, especially pecans, into their post-workout diets.
